Hello Mary,

Thanks for the comment! To answer your question DMC definitely did not go bankrupt recently- or ever. Last year we were bought by a different investment company so that may have been where some rumors stirred up. DMC is a subsidiary of France, same company, just a different market with different needs so we don't have the same product offering in every countries.

Of course if there is a strong need for a product that is carried by one of our foreign subsidiaries, we are always willing to consider the possibility of offering it if that is something that would appeal to the US market. Feel free to contact me anytime and I would love to discuss the threads you just mentioned, and see if we perhaps could start building a market analysis to see if these threads would have a positive response from the US market. You are a leader in you work, and I read your blog all the time!

Excellent history! Fun to read - and interesting.

What's the news on DMC France? I know that there's a difference between DMC USA and DMC France - they aren't the same company, somehow - but where did this split come in? I've heard that DMC France went bankrupt recently. Is this true?

Is there ever a chance that DMC USA will carry the same threads that are available in European countries? Threads like the non-divisible coton a broder used for whitework? Or the Alsatian Twist available in Italy? It would be terrific to see these threads more widely available in the US!

Thanks again for the history!

Hello! Very interesting article, thanks.

Just a note on the dates. The 17th century was the 1600s, the 18th century the 1700s, the 19th century the 1800s and the 20th century was the 1900s. You've got them matching numbers too closely in your DMC history!=) Thought you might like to amend it.=)

This is a fabulous and interesting history!! Many thanks for getting it together - I enjoyed the history of DMC as well as the needlepoint and X-stitch. I've never been able to get it together all at once.
