Unusual Halloween Needlework

Monday, September 6, 2010

It’s fun to think outside the hoop when designing needlework projects.

Here’s some inspiration for creating some rather unusual items.

Since needlework projects take time, start stitching now, and you’ll have them ready in time for Halloween!

Need an option for the usual sugary candy? How about crocheting eyeballs for Halloween, complete with nerve endings? Regina Rioux Gonzalez crochet an entire batch using DMC’s Size 8 Pearl Cotton!

Those eyballs are super cool and fabulously creepy!

For a spooky doily or framed art piece, the About.com Crochet Guide has provided an awesome pattern for a filet crochet spider in a web.

The pattern features information on crocheting the piece in different sizes of Crochet Threads, giving you a ton of versatility and range of sizes!

Or, how about stitching a creepy pirate flag in cross stitch using glow-in-the-dark, flourescent Light Effects floss, color #310!

As always, I looked at the spider from a needlepointer’s view – I used to do “filet lace” in needlepoint, and this would work for a great pillow inset, app. 12″ square. OR it could be done, following the chart, in mosaic stitch for a great door hanger or pillow inset – in the neighborhood of 6″ square on 18 mesh canvas (so says my mental calulator). what fun!! Also just doing it in tent stitch from the chart would work for an ornament. This spider is truly a fine thing!!

Love the design and can easily be made into cross stitch for a biscornu. I am a Halloween fanatic, thanks so much for sharing this!
