What’s Your Superpower?

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

I am really excited about this blog hop, because it is our very first one! I was a little nervous about it and super busy with my project last week. (No, “busy” is not my superpower, except on some days!) I want to thank Mdm Samm for calling me with the opportunity to be part of the hop and Pauline for being a great and patient cheerleader. I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on all the fun until now!

This week it’s time for mild-mannered Emma Broidery to reveal her secret true identity as Super Emma, Super Stitcher! With just a needle and DMC thread, I can save the world, one stitch at a time! But honestly, I can’t do it alone.

As Super Emma, my Superpower is Creating Community. I like to think I help bring stitchers and quilters together into amazing needlework groups and guilds. I love these extraordinary needlework communities! When stitchers come together whether we are beginners or experts, we are not just stitching thread. In a way, we are stitching strong connections between us.

As we share stories and stitches, our bonds deepen. We inspire each other with project ideas and new techniques. We cheer for each other and support each other. We matter to each other. Being together helps us to build confidence and often pushes us to challenge ourselves. A needle and thread truly can be magical! The truth is, we ALL share the same superpower! Creating community takes all of us. (And did I mention that we can save the world?)

Super Emma was designed by Brooke Nolan and is stitched with DMC Embroidery Floss, DMC Light Effects, and DMC Memory Thread on 28 count Charles Craft White Monaco, stitched over two threads. The finished piece was tacked onto a pink pillow with two trims. Don’t you love the buttons? If you feel a little like Super Emma, here is a link to the Super Emma chart.

Thank you for visiting! I will love to receive and reply to your comments! I hope you continue to see the other amazing Super Bloggers this week. I know I will.

This is a super-powered fantastic cushion! Waouh, and everything with cross stich? I have to confess I tried crossstiching once, and I never tried it again, I had knots everywhere and the result (if I can speak of this chaos beeing a result) was awful…. Well, I was still young then (10) and now, some 33 years later, I never tried it again, LOL.
Perhaps a good reason to jump over my comfort zone and to concentrate again over this cross stich….
Wonderful job, I love the cushion!!

    Hello Emma,
I love your cross-stitch piece but as Judy B, says old eyes make cross-stitch difficult. But I do embroider and being graphically challenged, I always have to depend on others designs for projects. So how about doing an embroidery version for us graphically challenged? It’s very cute. Thanks for sharing and will be checking out your blog frequently for new ideas. Thanks for sharing.

THX not only for being one of the sponsors this round but for participating as well. Super Emma in cloth—how clever! I love the button trim that you chose to frame your cross stitch and the pink sets off her leotard quite nicely!

I am an avid “red”work type embroiderer but enjoy cross stitching too
so I have accumulated quite a supply of DMC floss over the years.

Emma, Thank you for participating. I often visit to find a cute pattern. I have always used DMC thread. My paternal grandmother taught me to cross stitch when I was about ten or eleven. I did a stamped tablecloth. It’s not the best work that I’ve ever done and I still have it. I think all my crosses do go the same way. I think stamped is much more difficult than counted. I hadn’t cross stitched in a few years and when I tried to pick it up again, I realized that I just couldn’t see to do it. Many months later, I had to have surgery on both my eyes. I still have some issues with my eyes and hope to stitch again soon. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that you are participating in this blog where most of us are quilters and many of us do other crafts as well. You are an inspiration to all of us. It’s like a reunion to have you participating.
