Sew Some Summer Fun!
Sunday, June 20, 2010Hi Everyone!
It’s that time of year again when the kids never seem to have anough to do. How about getting them involved in a sewing project?
Stitching on paper is a great way to teach the kids a new skill, and they have fun in the process!
All you need is pieces of card stock paper, an embroidery needle and DMC Size 5 Pearl Cotton in blue, pink and green.
To start, trace the pattern onto the card stock using a light box – or just hold it up to the window and let the light shine through it – and mark the dots on the pattern with a pencil.
Using the needle, prick holes through the marked dots. Pre-pricking the pattern makes it easier to sew.
Next, thread the needle with an 18-inch length of pearl cotton and stitch the design in rays from the center dot outwards.
Use long, straight stitches for the petals and leaves, and back stitch for the stem. Finish the stitched design as a card, gift tag, framed art, or in any number of creative ways.
It’s “sew” easy – and tons of fun!

Thank you so much for posting this idea. I have 4 nieces. They all love that “Auntie” as they call me, sews. I am the only person in my large family who sews. They like to sit and watch me Crazy Quilt and they are often asking me to give them something to make. This is perfect for them. What a great way to get them started and make a card for someone at the same time!!
Thanks so very much!
