Summer Stitching on the Web

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Summer’s nearly here, and I’m ready for some seasonal stitching!

Here are a few terrific, fun-in-the-sun projects that are available for free by some of our favorite designers.

Check out the Summer Coats pattern from Heidi at the Minneapolis-based Speckless blog. Her two cute critters are doing their best to stay cool in the city, in spite of their fur.

Check out the dripping ice cream cone – it’s a perfect location for working the detached chain stitch!

Over at Sew Lovely Embroidery you’ll find a free pattern for the Summer Girl bathing beauty.

I love the retro-look of Katy’s patterns, and this little vixen would look great embroidered on the back of a lightweight summer jacket, beach bag or framed in a hoop.

French knots or seed stitches would look great in the polka dot bathing suit. You can learn to work these and other basic embroidery stitches by visiting our embroidery stitch guide or using my Embroidery Stitch Tool book.

Over at Embroidery.About.com you’ll find a Dolphin in the Sun pattern with interchangeable elements.  Use it as a border or a medallion. Perfect for beach house accessories.

Any of these designs would look great worked in an DMC Embroidery Thread, but I’m thinking that the Summer Girl would look especially awesome worked in our dazzling Light Effects floss. Super chic!
