Stitcher Spotlight
Friday, October 22, 2010Hi All! Autumn is in full swing, and many of you are working on some awesome projects!
This week I’ve checked in on Needlepoint Artist Jan Fitzpatrick’s Thread Medley blog. She recently started a needlepoint design based on a Tree of Life patchwork quilt block, and shared it in her October 16th blog.
Jan’s using DMC Embroidery Floss in both solid and variegated colors, as well as DMC Color Variations floss in rich, Autumn tones. Her floss selection is shown here.
She’s been making fabulous progress on her piece and now has the top completed!
I love the way she used Oriental Stitch (all 6 strands) in the solid areas, but used a light, airy Skip Stitch using just 2 strands of floss in the open areas. It’s a beautiful and effective use of color and thread weight! Her stitches are perfect and although she does not mention using a laying tool, they are definitely helpful when working perfect, satiny stitches that lie nice and flat like hers do.
Jan’s a prolific stitcher, and her blog is full of beautiful projects and inspiration. Be sure to check out her Morroccan-style Mosaic Needlepoint Rug progress. This project is huge – and gorgeous!
We’ll be checking in with Jan again soon.
I’d love to hear what you’re working on!

Thank you for the compliments Emma! And I did indeed use a laying tool for the Oriental Stitch. I’m enjoying this project and really love the look of the Color Variations.
