Pardon Me, Do You Have That in a 7-1/2?
Thursday, September 16, 2010Ever since I posted that crazy pair of embroidered boots, I haven’t been able to get embroidered shoes off my mind.
I’ve been looking for some cool new shoes with embroidery to rock a new pair of jeans. But, instead of finding the perfect pair to purchase, I find that I’m getting a ton of inspiration from vintage shoes!
Here’s what I found – just in case I get up the nerve to actually embroider a pair of shoes myself. I’m giving it some serious thought!
Dorothy probably would have stayed in Oz if she were told she had to choose between this awesome pair of red shoes and a ballon trip back to Kansas!
The gorgeous pair of Ruby Reds is from the Northhampton Museum and shown on Flickr.
Layers of Meaning featured an article on Peranakan Shoe Embroidery and Beading. This type of embroidery is common in Singapore, and were often stitched by a bride as part of her dowry.
These slippers are so pretty, and they give me an idea for dressing up a pair of canvas mules that I purchased with the intent to embellish. I’m thinking of using Satin Floss and Memory Thread!
Embroidered and embellished shoes are also perfect for the wee ones!
The Tiny Happy blog featured these adorable bootes stitches from newly embroidered or vintage textiles.
And from the “Way Too Cute” department, check out the pattern for these tiny booties crocheted in Pearl Cotton from Althea at BugKnits!
These minis would be adorable used as ornaments for a baby’s first Christmas, or attach a pair to birth announcements or a greeting card for the parents-to-be!
Have fun!

I have also seen embroidiered Keds type canvas shoes and I have painted a pair in the past. This could become quite a trend!
Embroidered high tops would be awesome!!!!
WOW!! I like the layout! Maybe I need to investigate WordPress more for the blog i want to write about my Embroiderer’s guild.
Wow, that was the worst layout I’ve seen in a while. I use Firefox and I can’t read anything you wrote. I can read comments from others but your font is lost in a sea of floss. Nice pic of the shoes though.
How’s it looking now? I also use Firefox and I see the font just fine on the main page – like I did before the site crashed. I checked it in Firefox, IE, Chrome and Safari and the main page looks fine.
BUT, on the individual blog pages, it looks awful!!!! Please go to the main page to see the actual blog for now, while we get this resolved. Sorry for the confusion.
This brings back a fond memory of being young in the 50′s and 60′s – and going out dancing a lot. We used to make patterns from our high heeled shoes, cut that out in fabric to match our dresses, etc., and carefully glue it on – when neatly done, it looked like the shoes were made that way. This could be emobroidered first!!! WOW what an idea!
I used to market hand painted Keds also – lots of fun!
