Summer Seaside Sampler

Thursday, May 30, 2013

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to give you a heads-up that next week I am posting a pattern for a brand-new freebie, exclusive to the Emma Broidery blog!

Stitch this super Seaside Sampler in DMC Embroidery Floss on plainweave fabric, and then color the design with PrismaColor® pencils!  The wax-based pencils are a terrific way to add color or detail to any embroidery project that will not be washed (the color is added after washing/pressing the design after working the embroidery.

The sampler fits a standard 8×10″ picture frame and features a quote from author Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American Poet, Lecturer and Essayist, 1803-1882 .

You’ll use a variety of easy embroidery stitches in this project, including back stitch, detached chain stitch, running stitch, chevron stitch and the fern stitch.

It’s perfect as a framed piece of art for the beach house, or turn it into a fabulous pillow by adding printed fabric borders, a backing and some stuffing.

I’ve posted the color key above so you can gather your supplies. You’ll only need a single skein of each color, along with a 14×18″ piece of cotton or linen fabric (broadcloth is fine),  emroidery needles, hoop and colored pencils.

The pattern posts here on Monday, June 3rd!

What Prisma Pencils do you recommend? There are several wax based to choose from and I’m new to embroidery and not sure which one of the three wax based product will be suitable to use; 1)Premier Soft Core Colored Pencils, 2)Premier Art Stix Colored Pencils or 3)Premier Verithin Colored Pencils? Then there is also the Scholar, I think they are wax based as well? If you could please offer some advice it would be ever so helpful and much appreciated. And color advice for the pencils would also be helpful to me, I haven’t embroidered in over thirty years so I really could use some guidance. Renee
