A couple of lovely things caught my eye on the web this week – this beautiful Ombre sampler tutorial, by Jessica on the Needle & Cloth blog:
I love how this is such a simple concept that can be executed so beautifully. It’s a perfect way to 1) add a few new stitches to your repertoire, and 2) display the beauty of 5 DMC shades in a nice color run.
I have a few ideas for DMC Threads in a 5 color run, if you’d like them:
yellows: 744, 743, 742, 741, 740
blue-grays: 168, 169, 317, 413, 3799
tangerines: 967, 3341, 3340, 608, 606
aquamarines: 504, 503, 502, 501, 500
teals: 3811, 597, 3810, 3809, 3808,
pinks: 605, 603, 602, 601, 600
Or, remember the 5 favorite DMC Threads you chose for our last giveaway? This would be a lovely way to commemorate your favorites, with or without the Ombre effect.
And, if you’re looking for an ambitiously beautiful new stitch to try on your Ombre sampler, how about this gorgeous specimen, stitched by Anne Mende, on her blog Pumora :
Another gorgeous stitch that may be new to you is the Bokhara couching stitch, demonstrated quite beautifully by Kimberly Ouimet:
If you find yourself stitching a sampler, or trying either of these new stitches, please be sure to share a picture with us – we’d love to see it!
