Baby, it’s hot outside…
In spite of the rising temperatures, this fluffy feline (modeled after my own crazy bundle of purring fur) takes summer in stride.
Stitch this free project in crazy shades of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery Floss in basic embroidery stitches including outline stitch around the body of the cat, back stitch for the whiskers, blanket stitch, running stitch and chain stitch. Double cross stitches were worked at the circle centers and French knots in the cheeks.
To embroider this pattern, print the free pattern, then trace the pattern onto a piece of white embroidery fabric such as DMC 25-count evenweave, Charlescraft 28-count Carolina Linen or Monaco using a water soluble Embroidery Transfer Pen.
Then, work the embroidery was worked using 3 strands of the 6-strand floss in the needle.
I selected shades of DMC 6-Strand Embroidery floss for a hip, almost retro look in my version of the pattern. These include color numbers 600 (V DK Cranberry), 3341 (Apricot), 740 (Tangerine), 581 (Moss Green), 943 (MD Aquamarine), 3765 (V DK Peacock Blue), 3837 (Ultra DK Lavender), 743 (MD Yellow) and 844 (Ultra DK Beaver Gray).
After cleaning and blocking, I plan on turning this design into a nice, comfy cushion for my backyard bench.
Purrr-fect for summer daydreaming!
For even more feline inspiration, Christine Linton has created an awesome thread-painted cat (above). In this design, she used three different shades of gray DMC floss to give her cat a fluffy look. It looks cute enough to cuddle!
