NEW Floating Leaves Embroidery Pattern

Monday, October 8, 2012

Fall is in the air and the leaves are changing. It’s my favorite time of year, and always reminds me of a quote by Albert Camus“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”

It won’t be long until the leaves have floated off the trees, gone for the season and we’re left with the crunching of dried leaves on the ground.

In today’s blog, I’m sharing a brand new pattern with you, so you can celebrate the beauty of Autumn by capturing the leaves and bright colors in embroidery.

There are three different motifs in the the Floating Leaves Pattern that you can use to stitch a band or border on pillowcases or tablecloth, stitch as a small block for a pillow or quilt, or use the motifs to embroider on ready-made runners, placemats and napkins.

Click on the link above, or on the image of the pattern sheet to download the pdf pattern.

Mark the pattern on your embroidery fabric using a water-soluble fabric marking pen on light fabrics, or a fabric pencil on dark fabrics, and then work the designs in surface embroidery stitches using your favorite DMC embroidery thread.

You can refer to our Embroidery Stitch Guide for ideas, or instructions for working a variety of embroidery stitches.

Trying to decide on which colors of DMC Embroidery Floss is going to be the hardest part! There are so many beautiful, fall tones to choose from, so I suggest selecting the floss to match leaves in your yard.

Or, add a touch of elegance by working the designs in DMC Light Effects Floss in luscious metallics using colors with names like Copper, Dark Gold, Dark Red Ruby, Golden Dawn and Dark Oak.
