Gone Fishing…
Friday, July 30, 2010Fishing and lazy summer afternoons go hand-in-hand. Here are a few fun, fishy designs that are sure to become the catch of the day!
These awesome fabric fish from Bustle and Sew are made from linen and felt accented with back stitch embroidery and beading. The main details can be worked in pearl cotton or floss, and the details along the bellies of the fish would look awesome embroidered in satin stitch with DMC’s Satin Floss. These fabric fishies are so cute, I want to make a bunch myself!
Mary Corbet has been documenting her progress on an awesome Blackwork Fish. This amazing project was started in February of 2010, and her latest update was posted this past week. She has really been working her fins off, and is sure to finish this masterpiece “reel” soon!
Here’s proof that even the simplest design can be a joy to stitch. Backwoods Creation’s fish embroidery is worked on a dyed background in simple stitches using buttonhole stitch, French knots, bullion stitch and outline stitch. So simple!
Needlepointers will want to check out this fish pattern inspired by antique porcelain. The design can be worked in muted colors of DMC Tapestry Wool on 14-mesh canvas and can also be adapted to cross stitch.
For more inspiration, check out Deborah Weir’s embroidered fish. There are so many exciting stitch details in her designs, it has me hooked, lined and sinkered…
Don’t let these fish get away!
Happy Stitching!
~Emma

Those 3-d fish are hysterically cute. I can think of a couple of men with hunting/sports that a fishing creel basket full these fish would be a cute decorator item. (am tucking that idea away for future referrence!!) Have been watching Mary’s progress with her black fish, and various other things she’s making…..her work is fantastic!!!! Thanks for “fish days”!
Hi, Emma! Thanks heaps for highlighting my fish! He’s aaaalllllmoooost finished. So close…. and yet….
I love the little stuffed fish in the top photo. They crack me up! And of course, Deborah Weir’s fish is superb.
Thanks again, and thanks for the fun post to read!

(PS – Thanks, Cyndi, for the nice comments on my work!)
The fish are fabulous – I’m digging out my files of fish now, especially the coral reef critters! Mary’s is a work of art, as usual, and the stuffed one is a great idea! What fun this blog is lately!
