Color Infusions Memory Thread + Sneak Peak for TNNA Show!
Monday, June 7, 2010Have you discovered Memory Thread?
If you haven’t already experimented with this AWESOME new fiber from DMC, then you need to run out to your favorite local needlework store and pick this up today. Memory Thread is a soft fiber wrapped copper wire that is easily shaped and formed to add extra dimension and texture. Use it to create embellishments for needlework and paper crafts. This thread is currently available in 18 gorgeous colors. Each thread is hand-wrapped on recyclable shuttles to keep them organized and ready to use. Notches on the shuttles hold the thread in place once in use.
DMC Color Infusions Memory Thread is:
- Acid-free
- Fade Resistant
- Colorfast
Memory Thread is ideal to outline designs, create shapes and words, twist into spirals to create trim or cording, tie on to cards – the possibilities are endless! Once you start using it, you’ll think of so many other uses.
To apply Memory Thread to needlework, simply tack or couch it down as needed with a single strand of matching thread.
Click here to download PDF for floss colors to use when couching down Memory Thread.
How to add Memory Thread Embellishment onto Needlework-
1. Thread needle with single strand of DMC Floss to match Memory thread.
2. Using a larger tapestry needle, enlarge hole where Memory Thread will be added. Push ½” end of Memory Thread through hole from front to back, then tack down the end on the back.
3. On the front, shape the Memory Thread as desired and tack down every ½” or as needed or desired.
4. At the end, enlarge a hole with a larger Tapestry needle, push the end of Memory Thread through and turn under on back. Tack down and trim end. Or, depending on the design, you can leave the end on top and crimp it back on itself.
Look at some of the cool ways you can use this fiber! Crazy Quilting (shown in picture on top left), Embellishing a Needlepoint canvas (shown in picture on top right), Adding dimension to cross stitch (shown in picture on bottom left), and you can use it to even add 3-dimensional details to your needlework pieces (shown in picture on bottom right).
I get to give you another Sneak Peak of what we are showing at TNNA this week of our AMAZING needlepoint canvases. I photographed some close-ups of the beautiful canvases that all feature Memory Thread application. You are going to go nuts when you see these canvases in full glory displayed at the DMC Booth!
Needlework Artists around the country are starting to use Memory Thread more and more! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post where I will take you to other Blogs where artists are using Memory Thread for all kinds of cool projects.
Until then…Happy Stitching!

Wow, memory thread looks very interesting. I think the dimension it can add to a project is wonderful. My first thought was butterflies and dragonflies
I love using it with surface embellishing on needlepoint – making actual stitches for special effects (within limits!) It’s amazing stuff.
