One the Road with Emma – CHA

Thursday, January 10, 2013

I’m on the road this week, traveling with the DMC bunch and setting up our booth at the Craft and Hobby Association (CHA) Conference and Trade Show in Anaheim! This year’s Winter Conference & Trade Show is being held at the Anaheim Convention Center from January 11 – 15, 2013.

We’re excited about this year’s show, because we have a lot of exciting new products making their debut!

One of them is the NEW Emma Broidery Memory Thread How-to Guide! This 5×7″ spiral-bound book will be available at fine independent needlework shops and major craft and fabric retailers.

The book features detailed directions and diagrams for making a wide variety of creative projects using Memory Thread – our popular, fiber-wrapped wire thread – including includes step-by-step instructions for trendy jewelry making and paper crafts as well as needlework applications.

The Craft & Hobby Association’s celebrity media judges have selected the Emma Broidery Memory Thread How-to Guide as one of their picks for the 2013 Winter “CHA Hot 20” list of products. The CHA Hot 20 are headlining products that will be introduced at the CHA Sneak Peek Media & Buyer Event on January 11, 2013.

Thank you, CHA – We’re honored to have been selected!

Also new this year are new additions to our CharlesCraft Ready-to-Stitch Stuffed Animals that are so cute that they’re irresistible. The Exotic Bird Collection featuring a peacock, toucan and flamingo join the plush family in March of 2013, bringing the collection to 6 figures, including the original pig, duck and monkey .

We also have new DMC Color Variations booklets that are now available for cross stitch and embroidery, and new Prism products  available in April 2013, perfect for young crafters. I’ll give you more details on these products after we’re finished setting up and the show gets started on Friday, so stay tuned!.

For those of you attending the CHA show, DMC is located in booth #1337. The show starts tomorrow!

Drop on by… and tell them Emma sent you!

Embroidered Rockers

Friday, November 23, 2012

The King- detail

I’m absolutely taken with Bridgeen from Cherry & Cinnamon and her amazing series of embroidered rockers. She used “mug shots” of famous rockers as a departure point – I love the detail and texture she was able to achieve in a mostly monochromatic format.

Just one shade of embroidery floss against a natural linen-looking background. Well, except for my personal fave, David Bowie – and I think it fits his renegade style to be rendered in more than 1 shade of floss…

Thin White Duke Detail ol Blue eyes - detail fw Man in Black- detail
Bridgeen’s portrait series is one of many (no doubt fabulous) works currently on exhibition at the Mr X Stitch exhibit (view list of artists here) at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate, UK. Now there’s something I wouldn’t mind hopping across the pond to see!

How about you? Have you ever attempted a piece with just one shade of DMC thread? We’d love to see it!

The New Waste Canvas

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

I must confess, I have been obsessed with DMC’s Water Soluble Canvas.

Can you blame me? It’s so easy to now stitch onto any surface (t-shirts, bags, cuffs, pillow, tablecloths, tea towels… ahh so many ideas!) using the sturdy holes in the clear 14-count canvas.

I am going to experiment tonight with some vintage t-shirts I picked up and decorate them with applique and embroidered stitches all over. Pick up some for yourself at Joanne’s, or online at the DMC Shop.

To get you started using this wonderful material, DMC has produced a brand new video for you! Check it out below. Make sure to pay the DMC You Tube Channel a visit, we are releasing new videos each day this week!

I have been busy prepping for Market this weekend. DMC will be in room 608 showcasing the new Color Variation colors and holding a fun raffle.

Oh by the way have you popped over to the DMC Facebook Page lately? We are holding a sweepstakes to honor our 10,000 Facebook Friends. Be the first to get your hands on the new variation threads before they hit stores! Must be in USA or Canada to enter (sorry my international friends) Go here for official rules for the contest.

Stitchy Yumminess

Thursday, February 2, 2012

Hi Everyone,

Just landed from the CHA Show and my head is full of crafty creative inspiration! I promised to post updates from the TNNA Show so here we go!

What’s new in the stitching world? Lot’s of beautiful new canvases and designs, embellishment ideas and materials, mixed media integration and more!

My first stop at the TNNA Show was Pischke Pockets, I love her stuff and she uses DMC Tapestry Wool in her designs.

Clara Wells Needlepoint, owner Shannon Pokorski, has some BEAUTIFUL mini needlepoint bags.

Sundance has caught the Memory Thread craze of three dimensional embellishments and introduced their newest product called SPARKLES. This awesome material is a tubular metallic mesh which has wonderful design and shaping possibilities.
The tubing can be ironed down flat onto your project to look like ribbon. It can also be couched down as a three dimensional embellishment.

Check out that cute robot piece, the Sparkles was ironed down around the piece as a ribbon. His arms are made from the Sparkles left in the tube form and couched down.

The Little Shoppe Canvas company has some beautiful 3D Pillar Candles. All candles come with a battery operated t-light. I can’t wait to stitch these up for my bathroom!

Love these canvases adapted by Tapestry Fair with original Day of the Dead art by Manuel Salas. This design is called “Un Pocito de Color” or A Little Bit of Color. Blogged here at Chilly Hollow Needlepoint.

June McKnight has a new book out called Bling Stitches. It’s full of awesome creative specialty stitches that were inspired by famous fashion icons such as Jackie Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe. Look out for a giveaway on the DMC Blog soon with some awesome stitching books, June’s Bling Stitches will be included!

I made a stop at NeedleDeeva’s booth to catch up with Robin King. Robin taught the DMC Needlepoint Go 3D Class for us. She demonstrated how to stitch and embellish this cake canvas (pictured below), cute right? Robin is a designer and does many stitch guides. She did a stitch guide for Zecca’s Lotus Squared design which I loved. Check out how she finished this stunning design into an elegant lacquered box.

I stopped in at our friends Labors of Love (remember the beautiful peddlers canvases?) to check out their beautiful new canvases, ‘The Four Seasons.’ They also had some amazing new canvases that featured sculpted heads right on the canvas. I loved them!

My last two stops were some of my favorites, Kelly Clark and Raymond Crawford. Kelly has a fun new series of canvases called “Firecrackers.” Get started on those beautiful summer projects! These would look great as decorations for my annual 4th of July Soiree.

Raymond Crawford has a playful new Santa Club series starting March 2012. Ask your LNS for details.

I got a chance to meet the winners in the New Designer Showcase contest for the Counted Thread & Embroidery Group of TNNA.

The Winners are:

Find out about these talented up and coming designers on the TNNA press release. Congratulations to them!

Now I need to sort through all my new business cards I got at the shows!

Happy Stitching!

~ Emma
