Your Spring Style’s In The Bag

Saturday, March 21, 2015

dmc clutchSpring has finally arrived, and we can’t wait to experiment with new color schemes, especially those that can be worn in “clutch” situations… if you catch our drift.

Don’t worry, even if you didn’t we’ll still tell you: A DIY clutch!

You heard that right. Next time you need a new accessory to brighten up an outfit, look no further than your knitting needles and our new Ribbon XL Hoooked.

dmc hoooked

By the way, we’re crazy about this new product — it really knows no bounds. Think anything from apparel to a wide range home accessories. Plus, it’s easy to work with and made from 100% recycled fibers, and it’s tubular structure makes it both incredibly durable and lightweight. In other words, the perfect fabric for a go-to handbag.

It also comes in — count ‘em — 16 colors! So if you like the bag (and trust us, you will), make another one in a different color. Then another… and maybe even another! It will be your favorite Spring and Summer accent. Let’s get started!

What you need:

– 2 Coils of RibbonXL (We’re using orange today)

– 40 x 70cm rectangular cloth upholstery (Don’t have one? It’s DMC item code: DT401)

– 2 small perforated belts (can also use a thin braided belts, whichever you prefer — get creative!)

– Knitting needles (Using an Elastic Point 2/2: 2 points to the right / 2 reverse)

dmc needles

How to make it:

– Mount 38 points and work in knit 2/2 until a height of 70 cm

– Close the points. The result is a rectangle of 41 x 70cm

– With the rectangle of fabric, line the fabric rectangle RibbonXL and sew with small dots. (The bag is obtained by folding the rectangle into 3 parts: The bottom is composed of 2 parts of 24cm, which is sewn to the sides The remaining part is not sewn.)

– Fold the flap and fasten two belts around the bag
Now we only have one question for you… What color bag will YOU be making first??

Brambles Beret by Susixs on RavelryI’m hoping you enjoyed last week’s tour of beautiful items knitted with Natura yarn – this week, I’ll be showing you a gorgeous selection of things knitted with Woolly!

Breathtaking is the only word I can use to describe this Brambles Beret by Susixs on Ravelry. The Woolly shade she used is so icy and lovely, and the delicious stitch detail on that pattern makes me want to reach out and touch it.

The Free Brambles Beret pattern by Amanda Muscha is available on Ravelry and Knitty, where it was originally published.

Endpaper Mitts by Shnuck93 on Ravelry

These beautiful Endpaper Mitts by Shnuck93 on Ravelry really do have the exquisite texture of lovely endpapers in a classic book volume.

Stitched in two shades of Woolly, they look perfect for book lovers in need of cozy hands! If you’re not familiar with colorwork in knitting, this would be a great pattern to explore.

The Free Endpaper Mitts pattern by Eunny Jang is available via Ravelry and on her blog, See Eunny Knit.

Log Cabin Baby Blanket by Caroscrap on RavelryThere’s nothing more delicious than a cozy garter stitch blanket, and this stunning Log Cabin Baby Blanket by Caroscrap on Ravelry is no exception.

Stitched up in no less than 18 shades of Woolly – this is a fabulous sampler of color and texture.

Knitted with Natura !

Saturday, January 17, 2015

Do we have any Ravelry members in the house? Ravelry is perfect to explore knitting and crochet patterns and yarns – and today, I thought I’d focus on all the lovely things knit with our beautiful Natura yarn.

DMC Natura knitted shawl on Ravelry, by hazysummersYou’ll need a Ravelry account to explore the images and patterns in this post – and since it’s free – why not create one?

This beautiful, wispy Drop Stitch Shawl was knitted by hazysummers on Ravelry. The free pattern is also available on Ravelry – Clapo-Ktus by Loredana Gianferri.

What I love about this shawl is that it doesn’t have any of the stiffness you might associate with cotton yarn – it looks billowy and breathtaking, doesn’t it?

Bootees by al-abrigo on RavelryThese teeny-tiny Bootees by Al-Abrigo on Ravelry are so adorable!

Knit with Natura in a gorgeous, vibrant shade, using the free Saartje’s Bootees pattern by Saartje de Bruijn.

I have a feeling this pattern could be addictive, and you just might need booties in every shade of the rainbow!

Clockwork Cozy in Natura by Strong and Mellow on RavelryThis Clockwork Cozy by Strong and Mellow is so delightfully colorful. I can think of a few boring clocks that could use some sprucing up, and I love the bright Natura shades she chose!

Knit from a free Colorful Clockwork Cozy pattern by retrobaby – this is a great way to knit up little swatches as a guide to your yarn collection – perfect for your craft room!

Flat Rat by maggiesc on RavelryOk, this Flat Rat by maggiesc is hilarious! Particularly for those who have a horror of rats. Knit in Natura – it looks like it makes a cozy bookmark. Depending on how much you love your flat rat, this could also make a cute cat toy.

Try out the free Flat Rat pattern by Susan Glinert Stevens for a flat rat of your own!

Scabiosa Top by Alhana on RavelryI’m taken aback by the beauty of this Scabiosa Top by Alhana on Ravelry. It’s a lovely example of the intricate stitchwork and stitch definition you can achieve in Natura – so beautiful!

The Scabiosa Top pattern by Al-Abrigo is available for purchase on Ravelry and on her site – it looks like the perfect combination of feminine and casual.

What about you? Do you love Ravelry? What have you knit with Natura yarn?

Knitting Natural Life- Come experience natural knitting throughout the DMC booth #715 at this years Vogue Knitting Live which begins on January 16-18, 2015 at the Marriot Marquis in NYC.

As we approach the event I will be doing a spotlight every day on the various yarns that will be available at the show, including inspirational items being made from our yarns.  Today I wanted to introduce consumers to the world of Woolly Yarn.  Woolly_leaflet_9

What makes Woolly Yarn so fabulous. DMC Woolly Merino Wool is beautifully soft to the skin. Sourced from Australia it is 100% natural and renewable. Woolly’s unique quality comes from its long, thin fibres that give superior softness to the touch and a feeling of comfort when against the skin.
