Black, White, and Neutral

Coffin BuzzMuch of the focus on this blog has been color – and it’s true that DMC threads come in a veritable rainbow of shades. But there’s something equally beguiling about black and white, or black, white and neutral backgrounds like linen (view our Carolina Linen, for example) – so this post is a celebration of various black and white loveliness found on the web!

Now, I know this sampler, stitched by Flickr user Bob and Peg is stitched in a dark variegated thread, but it’s close enough to black and lovely enough to make its way into this post. If you love this pattern, it’s a freebie offered by Plum Street Samplers – get the pattern.

Tiny City I’m also a fan of this beautiful cityscape stitched by Flickr user andreafarina. I love the architectural quality of this work, and the lovely way the lines and hanging threads play against a linen background…

Eye embroidery This gorgeous stitched eye by Flickr user Mrs Gibson’s Atelier fascinates me. It is equal parts beautiful and unsettling. Lovely work!

Not finished... Another cityscape – this time a very sweetly stitched one, by Flickr user Wendalene, caught my eye. I love the imaginative animals and cuteness in this doodle-like piece.

Have you ever attempted a piece in black and white or with black thread on linen? Why not share a photo with us!

Thank you for this! I just finished stitching that Plumb Street Sampler and brought it to the framer. It will look lovely in my Mom’s kitchen with her collection of antique coffee pots!
